Bryar Pfaff
October 10, 2023
This story started several years ago when our driver, Bryar Pfaff was learning to drive on a lonely country road. At that time, Bryar found himself alone and in the aftermath of an accident. To say the least, it was an event that he remembers well.
Recently, Bryar made a delivery on the very same winding road. After dropping the materials at the job site as he was returning to the store, he came upon an accident. Bryar could not help but feel empathy toward a young lady who had an accident and was all alone. Of course, Bryar had more deliveries, a tight schedule to keep as well as being on the clock.
Often, we only get one opportunity to do the right thing and that is exactly what Bryar did. We like to say we are a company that cares about people and in this instance, Bryar demonstrated people matter to the employees at Bender Lumber. Rather than thinking it was somebody else’s problem, Bryar stopped to offer comfort and safety for a young lady who was distraught. He stayed by her side long enough for her to get help on its way, then quickly came on back to the store to finish his day.
Bryar did not explain, nor did anyone ask about the delay as he went about doing his job. It wasn’t until the next morning when the mother of the young lady called Martinsville manager Tammy Burkett with accolades about Bryar.
Tammy was elated that Bryar knew he would get her support for doing the right thing. We often mention a Core Value that might explain an action. This selfless act would cover several. This establishes how a Bender Lumber employee should be and act. We are so proud of Bryar for his commitment to help another person, even if he had nothing to gain. Congratulations Bryar Pfaff for being our latest member of the Extra Mile Club.
